Japanese Garden beach sculpture in St Peters Road garden
A pile of old bits of wood in a front garden? No, Manami Cheves, of St Peter’s Road, has created a driftwood sculpture from items picked up whilst walking with her 5 year old son, Ellliot, on Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill beaches earlier this year. “I also like picking up rubbish from the beach and putting it in bins”. Although her ‘beach sculpture’ is quite small at the moment, Manami has plans to add to it over time. “I’ve seen Derek Jarman’s garden at Dungeness and quite liked it”, she says. Manami, 44, has lived in the UK for ten years and has been practising as an aromatherapist for about 8 years. Prior to that, she was in the fashion business in London. “I used to be a clothes stylist in London. I created designs for musicians for television appearances and magazine articles”. Among her music business clients were Janet Kay, The Eternals and Morocco.
